Why is parking such an issue and what can I do to avoid problems?
The size of the Y’s parking lot is at its maximum. Depending on the time of year and programs at the Y, parking spaces are at a premium. We do our best to schedule Y programs/events so that parking is always available. Most times there are plenty of spaces in the rear parking lot, and there is a path at the side of the building that leads to the front entrance.
Why do you have to shut down for 2+ weeks each August?
During our shut-down period, many projects are completed that cannot be accomplished while there are members here like: painting locker rooms; refinishing the gymnasium and group fitness wood floors; replacing carpeting; replacing, heating and chemical balancing the pool water. Experience has taught us that doing major maintenance at one time is less disruptive than closing areas during other times of the year. During this time, we work to have other local YMCAs available to you.
What’s “Give a Kid the Y”? Don’t my membership dollars fund that?
All contributions to this annual fundraiser provide financial assistance to qualified children and families for after school care, childcare, day camp, teen programs and memberships. Assistance is granted based on supporting wage and bank documents. Membership fees fund the day-to-day operation of the Y – no part of membership fees are used for this assistance program.
Who is eligible for financial assistance? Does it apply to all programs?
Financial assistance is available to anyone but it is need-based. It can be applied to membership, program fees, camp and childcare.
What is the policy concerning opposite sex children in locker room?
Children are allowed in the locker rooms of the opposite sex through kindergarten age. After that, they must use the gender appropriate locker room. For convenience, we also have changing stalls and a large bathroom on the pool deck available for those with young families.
I have an idea or concern. How do I let the correct Y staff member know?
If your concern needs immediate attention, please seek out a staff member in that specific area or go to the front desk attendants. All other concerns and suggestions can be submitted to the executive staff via the concern box in the lobby or the “member comment box” on our website home page.
What are the hours of operation in each area?
The YMCA schedules each of the member areas to meet the needs of its diverse age population. Please see the schedules in the lobby or on our website. The Health and Fitness Center, Gymnasium and Pool close 15 minutes prior to building closing time.
What are the age requirements in each area?
Age guidelines are available in your Member Handbook, on our website, in our program brochure and by definition on each area schedule.
How do you determine the TV station in the Lobby?
Because we are a family YMCA and have a diverse membership with many varied interests, the television stations selected are those for the general population. Keeping in mind that young children are often in the lobby, please feel free to ask the desk staff to change the channel if there is something you wish to watch that is within the “General” guidelines such as a sports game or cooking show.
What are the cell phone usage restrictions and why?
Most cell phones have the capability of photography. In order to protect you, your family and our staff from having unapproved pictures taken, cell phone usage is restricted to the lobby.
What are the food/beverage restrictions in the building and why?
All food and beverages (except for water and fitness drinks) must be consumed in the lobby. The staff works diligently to keep your YMCA clean and this policy is effective in preventing spills. As a family-friendly facility, we need to keep our floors as clean as possible for the children to play.
How are the vending options determined?
The Y makes every attempt to stock both healthy and popular snacks. Based on a recent survey of our members, you will see a variety of snack and beverage options.
Do I have to be Christian to join?
YMCA stands for Young Men’s Christian Association. Our mission is based on “Christian” principles. But you do not have to be “Young”, be a “Man”, or be “Christian” to be part of our “Association.”
