Director and Field Assistant Biographies

School Age Childcare Director: My name is Shannon Quinn and I am the School Age Childcare and Camp Director for the YMCA.  I graduated from Penn State University with a BS in Human Development and Family Studies with a concentration in Children, Youth and Family. I have had vast experience at Lakeland Hills Y in all capacities dealing with children and is dedicated to their well-being. A K through 8th grade certified teacher, I worked in our childcare center from 2000-2004 as a Head Teacher while serving as a Half Day Camp Head Counselor during the summers. In 2005 I was promoted to the After School Childcare Director, managing the “Kids Club” program while assisting the Camp Director during the summer months. I was then promoted to Summer Day Camp Director in 2008.  In 2010, Shannon was given the role of supervising both the Kids Club Afterschool Program and the Camp Program at the YMCA.  I am extremely committed to working with children to bring out the best in them and making sure they have fun!

Kids Club Field Assistant: My name is Michelle Christopher and I am the Kids Club Field Assistant. I am a NJ certified Art Teacher and taught for 3 years as an Art, Performing Arts, Graphic Design, Interior Design, and Digital Photography Teacher. I attended Caldwell College and Majored in Art and Graphic Design, graduated Cum Laude, and won the 2004 Caldwell College Art Department Award. I later attended school to obtain my Standard Teacher of Art Certificate for grades K-12. I've been working with children for over 14 years in Daycares, Substitute Teaching, Other YMCA’s for their after school programs and camps, and now I am the field assistant for the Lakeland Hills Family YMCA and also worked this year’s summer camp here as the Natural Crafts Specialist. I have many interests including all forms of making art, listening and playing music, being outdoors and in nature (hiking, camping, etc...), cooking and baking. I had so much fun working this year at the Lakeland Hills YMCA Summer Camp, and am looking forward to continue working with the Kids Club as the field assistant.  I started this position in April 2011 and am excited to start off a new school year bringing many new ideas, projects, and programs to each Kid’s Club site.  I enjoy working alongside each of our sites Kids Club staff and working with them to make Kids Club more enjoyable everyday for all of our kids.

Substitutes and Floaters

Floater/Music Specialist – Conor Schaar
My name is Conor Schaar; I am currently a junior at Parsippany hills high school.  One of the things I love to do more than anything else is play music!  I play bass and sing in my band ELI but I also play a lot of guitar and ukulele.  I love learning new songs but I also love writing songs in many styles of music.  One other thing I love is kids.  I have spent a lot of my life watching after my two young cousins whenever I am with them.  I love having fun with them, teaching them new things and being a good role model.  I am sure that I will have the same experiences with all of the kids at kids club.  I hope that I can bring my love of music to all of the kids and bring a new and fun aspect to kids club!

Substitute Counselor – Jianna Hall
My name is Jianna and I am a freshman at Montclair State University. I’ve worked for the “Y” for almost a year now at both Lincoln Park Kids Club & Summer Day Camp. In my spare time I referee youth soccer for Pequannock Parks & Recreation, play bass, volunteer tutor, and work with MSU Campus Recreation.
