About Our Staff

Camp Administration:
The Camp Director is responsible for the planning, programming, staffing, parental concerns, and overall supervision of the Summer Day Camp Program. Camp is broken up into 3 divisions, Seniors (4th-7th grade) Juniors (1st-3rd grade) and Sports (Sports, Gymnastics and Tennis).

The Administrative Health Assistant runs the camp office and is responsible for all medication with proper documentation and records.

A Division Leader is responsible for a specific division and oversees the daily activities, parent communication, staff and campers. Camp also provides a Behavior Specialist who works hands on with staff to help manage challenging behavior and special needs of our campers.

Staffing:
Day Camp staff are selected for their talent, enthusiasm, and knowledge of youth development. There are many different levels of ability within our camp staff.

  • Specialty Instructors - Professionals, teachers and/or coaches with a high level of experience in a chosen field. These instructors are in charge of planning and executing am activities in a specific curriculum area.
  • Senior Counselors - College level students or adults (18 years of age and up) who have experience and training with school-aged children. They are directly responsible and accountable for all group situations, safety, and the well being of their campers.
  • Assistant Counselors - College students or high school seniors who have experience with school-aged children. They assist the senior counselor and are responsible for safety, supervision and well being of all campers.
  • CIT Counselors - These teens will be placed in sports and junior groups and have special nametags. Our staff help the teens learn how to become counselors in the future and are part of our camp and not paid employees.

* Each group has a Senior Counselor and 1-2 Assistant Counselors dependant upon the age and size of the group.

Parent Suggestions/Comments
In order for the YMCA to provide a successful day camp experience for campers, it is necessary for the staff and parents to work together and support each other. Whenever you have questions or concerns related to the camp program, please direct them to the Camp Director, your child’s Division Leader, or Senior Counselor. Proper action can only be taken when clear communication takes place. Due to the times of activities at camp all phone messages will be answered within 24 hours. Most calls will be returned between 5 and 6 o’clock. Or if you would prefer you can email us at camp@lhymca.com.
