summer Camp Staff

CAMP ADMINISTRATION: 

The Camp Director is responsible for the planning, programming, staffing, parental concerns, and overall supervision of the Summer Day Camp Program. Camp is broken up into 5 divisions, Junior Boys (1st -3rd grade boys), Junior Girls (1st – 3rd grade girls), Senior Girls (4th -7th grade girls), Senior Boys (4th – 7th grade boys) and Sports (Junior Sports, Senior Sports, Gymnastics and Tennis). A Division Head is responsible for a specific division and oversees the daily activities, parent communication, staff and campers. The Health Office Administrator runs the camp office and is responsible for all medication with proper documentation and records. 

Shannon Bujoreanu: School Age Camp Director 

Shannon graduated from Penn State University with a BS in Human Development and Family Studies with a concentration in Children, Youth and Family. She has had vast experience at Lakeland Hills Y in all capacities dealing with children and is dedicated to their well-being. A K through 8th grade certified teacher, Shannon worked in our childcare center from 2000-2004 as a Head Teacher while serving as a Half Day Camp Head Counselor during the summers. In 2005 she was promoted to the After School Childcare Director, managing the “Kids Club” program while assisting the Camp Director during the summer months. Promoted to Summer Day Camp Director in 2008, Shannon is extremely committed to working with children to bring out the best in them and making sure they have fun! 

 

April Ryder: Preschool Camp Director

April graduated from East Stroudsburg University with a degree in Elementary Education and a concentration in Special Education. She has 12 years experience working with children from birth through Elementary school. April has been at the Y for 6 years and has had several roles. She started as the Half Day preschool teacher and worked the summers as a head counselor in the half day camp. April then took on a new role as the Assistant Childcare Director and in August of 2011 she was promoted to the position of Partial Day Early Childhood Learning Center Director. In 2012 she took over as director of the preschool camp. She is dedicated to making the experiences of children who are in her care fun, happy and safe!   


CAMP STAFFING: 
Day Camp staff are selected for their talent, enthusiasm, and knowledge of youth development. There are many different levels of ability within our camp staff. 

Specialty Instructors - Professionals, teachers and/or coaches with a high level of experience in a chosen field. These instructors are in charge of planning and executing a.m. activities in a specific curriculum area.
 
Counselors - College level students or adults (18 years of age and up) who have experience and training with school-aged children. They are directly responsible and accountable for all group situations, safety, and the well being of their campers. 

Support Counselors – College students or high school seniors who have experience with school-aged children. They assist the counselors and are responsible for safety, supervision and well being of all campers. 

Counselors–In-Training-These teens are campers that will be placed in junior groups and have special name tags. Our staff help the teens learn how to become counselors of the future. They are part of our camp and are not paid employees.
