Aquatics

The unique properties of water make it the ideal environment for exercise – and our 25-yard, 6-lane pool with water temperature at 84 degrees, provides a great venue to meet your exercise needs. Almost anything you can do on land can be done in the water – aerobic conditioning, strength training, weight loss, and increased flexibility. Swimming is good for your heart and is low impact, no stress or strain on your joints. Plus, using all of your body’s muscle sets, a good workout can be done in less than thirty minutes. All abilities can benefit from water exercise, whatever age or fitness level because you are in control of your movements. We have many programs available to teach or improve your swimming and fitness skills in the water.

LEARN: ADULT SWIM LESSONS (15 Years and Older)

Want to learn to swim with your face in the water? Each participant sets goals and works with instructors to achieve them.  Students are grouped according to their abilities on the first day of lessons. It's never too late to learn!

CHALLENGE: MASTERS SWIMMING

AQUAFIT

This beginning-level water exercise class concentrates on range of motion and basic cardiovascular conditioning.  Recommended for beginners, people with mild arthritis and those returning from back or joint injuries.

ARTHRITIS WATER EXERCISE

This class is designed for people with arthritis or those with limited range of motion.  Our trained instructor guides participants through gentle actions in the water (pool is kept at 84º) that can help decrease pain and stiffness.

AQUACIZE FOR OLDER ADULTS

Exercises done in the pool puts less stress on your joints. This enjoyable and fun class works in both shallow and deep ends but you do not need to know how to swim to participate. Flotation devices are provided.

AQUASCULPT

RED CROSS CERTIFICATIONS

WATERFRONT LIFEGUARDING (15 Years and Older)

This Red Cross Certification course will certify individuals in lifeguarding, (waterfront for those 16 and older) CPR for the professional Rescuer, First Aid, and AED. Participants must be at least 15 by time of first class. 

THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS TO BE COMPLETED THE FIRST NIGHT OF CLASS, ARE NECESSARY IN ORDER TO TAKE THE COURSE:
  1. Swim 550 yards demonstrating the front crawl, breaststroke, side stroke, and elementary backstroke.
  2. Tread water for 5 minutes.
  3. Recover a 10-pound brick from 12 feet of water.
Participants must pass 100% of these water skills in addition to passing a written test by at least 80%. There are no refunds for failure to pass either requirement. Attendance is critical at every class. Absences may result in no certification.

American Red Cross certifications for Lifeguarding/First Aid and CPR/AED for the Lifeguard are valid for two years.  Certifications will be issued upon the successful completion of the course.

This is a blended learning course that combines online learning directly through Red Cross, with on-site skills sessions here at the Y, where you will practice skills and demonstrate competency.  Please plan to complete the initial online lessons of your training at least two days prior to your first on-site skills session. The Red Cross registration link is below and requires a $35 fee. DROP-IN SWIM DESIGNATIONS FOR ADULTS


Members are welcome to drop in at the pool during any of the following designations.  See Pool Schedule of Days/Times.  

LANE SWIM
Open to all full privilege members (and guests) who are 15 years and older. Lanes are designated for speed, so please enter from the shallow end in the appropriate lane and let others know that you will be joining them. Please be considerate of others. See our Etiquette Policy on the pool deck.

ADULT LAP SWIM
Open to all full privilege members (and guests) who are 19 years and older. Adult Lap time is usually available during the lunch time and after work, Monday-Friday.

RECREATION SWIM
Open to all full privilege members (and guests). Children under 7 years and any non-swimmer must be within arm’s length of an adult swimmer in the water. Children 7-11 years who do not use a bubble (cube) must be supervised by an adult from the water or the balcony. Bubbles are available on the pool deck. No inflatable devices are allowed in the water. Lap swimming is not permitted. See Pool Rules for further clarification.


LOCKER ROOMS
Please be aware that children must use their gender identifying bathrooms after kindergarten age. For those who need strollers, we encourage the use of “umbrella” type strollers while inside the Y, especially in the locker room where space is limited.

LONG HAIR POLICY
Anyone with shoulder-length hair or longer must wear a bathing cap or have hair securely tied up.

SHOWERING
Everyone must rinse off in shower before entering the pool.
